DSHI Systems Releases Next Generation Software to Veterans Health Administration
October 2006 -- For the past seven years, nurses in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) have relied on Veterans Health Gateway™ to help keep the nation’s veterans healthy. VHG is a sophisticated software system used by nurses to provide health advice via the telephone. This month, DSHI Systems, will release the next generation of this powerful application to the VA.
VHG helps nurses analyze symptoms, starting with a chief complaint. The software processes the responses and performs an urgency assessment. VHG answers important questions, such as:
"This release is a major technology leap for us," says Dr. John Beckett, VP of Government Systems at DSHI. "Although our VHA customers are very satisfied with the clinical decision-making capabilities of VHG, we wanted the contents of the clinical record to be tailored for physicians. Our goal was to make it faster for physicians to review the record. VHG is unique because it manages a complex medical interview in easy-to-understand language. Our new release captures data collected during the interview and converts it to medical terminology appropriate for the physician.”
Nurses use Veterans Health Gateway™ to care for 14 million veterans in 11 multi-state VHA healthcare networks. These networks operate more than 70 medical centers and 280 outpatient clinics, in order to provide services across 28 states.
DSHI collaborates with Document Storage Systems, Inc., which integrates the system with the VHA electronic health record.
